Program Philosophy
The mission's emphasis is on educating professionals and researchers on the management of information and knowledge in order to optimize their transfer and use in society. The overall goal of the MSI program is to educate information management specialists demonstrating the competencies, attitudes and sense of responsibilities generally associated with the information management professions. One of the five options is records management and archival studies. Students who take this option should be able to understand the principles and methods of the organization of records and archives for administrative, patrimonial, and research purposes. They should also be able to understand principles and methods that govern the creation, evaluation, acquisition, classification, communication, and conservation of records and archives.
Facilities
Records management and archives laboratory. Contains documents related to archivistic practice (classification guides, conservation schedules, research tools, etc.) and materials for preservation and conservation course. Computer laboratory. Equipped with software specific to records and archives management.
Practicum/Internships/Assistantships Offered?
For the certificate, a mandatory internship of 25 days in an institution. For the master's, a mandatory internship of 36 days in an institution. For both of these programs, laboratory exercises in the computer lab and in the records management and archives lab.
Research
For the certificate program, one 3-credit course for research. For the master's, a research orientation (27 credits) with master's dissertation.
