Program Philosophy

The Mission of the Palmer School is to contribute to knowledge in information studies through education and scholarship; and, to instill in the information professions a commitment to the free flow of information, to service excellence, and to socially responsible and innovative uses of technology.

Facilities

Courses leading to the Certificate in Archives are offered at the Long Island and Manhattan campuses. At the C.W. Post Campus, there is a separate library and dedicated computing laboratories that support the Archival studies program. The collection is Manhattan is supported by NYU's Bobst Library and augmented by materials required for Palmer School courses as needed. From all sites, students can access the University's campus-wide information system through LIUNET.

Practicum/Internships/Assistantships Offered?

LIS 690. Internship: 120 hours during a semester at an approved site, working under the supervision of a professional in the field. Guided by a Learning Contract jointly approved by faculty and the site supervisor, students augment what they have been taught in formal courses, further their career objectives, and enhance their skills, competencies, and abilities.

Research

LIS 697 Master's thesis: Independent Research for the preparation, development, and presentation of a master's thesis under a faculty member's advisement and supervision.
