American Archivist (Journal)
The premier journal of the archives profession, this semi-annual periodical features research articles, literature reviews, case studies, perspectives, and international reports. Individual full members and associate members receive complimentary access to the American Archivist.
Archival Outlook (Magazine)
Stay abreast of the latest news and information that is essential to the archives community. This bimonthly magazine includes how-to pieces and reports on innovations in the profession, SAA activities, upcoming events, and more!

Student Membership
Student Membership cp_adminStudent membership is open to individuals in degree-conferring programs and confers many member benefits at a significantly reduced rate. Such benefits include:
- Full access to American Archivist Online
- A complimentary subscription to Archival Outlook
- Member discounts on Annual Meeting and course/webcast registration
- Member discounts on SAA-published books
- Participation in SAA Sections
- Participation in SAA's Mentoring Program
Student members are also eligible:
- To hold any appointive position in the Society
- To vote for officers, councilors, members of the nominating committee
- To vote on all matters requiring a vote which come before the Society as a whole
- To be members of constituent units of the Society
- To receive the benefits of the Society's programs and services.

(Please note: Individuals who select this option must mail, fax, or email proof of active enrollment (e.g., a dated copy of your student ID/enrollment receipt or a signed letter/email from your faculty advisor) before your membership application or renewal can be completed.) Annual dues for a student member are $55 per year.

Associate Membership
Associate Membership cp_adminAssociate membership is limited to: a) individuals living in the United States who support the objectives of the Society but who are either not professionally responsible for custody or control of records, archives, or private papers or who are not engaged in the study or teaching of archives; and b) individuals living outside the United States whose primary allegiance is to their own national archival association.
Associate members are eligible:
- To be members of sections and task forces; and
- To receive the benefits of the Society's programs and services.
Annual dues for associate members are:
- $115 for those residing in the United States
- $145 for those residing outside of the United States
Institutional Membership
Institutional Membership cp_adminInstitutional membership is open to institutions or agencies responsible for or substantially interested in the custody, study, teaching, control, or use of archives, records, and/or private papers. Institutional members are eligible to receive the benefits of the Society's programs and services. Each institutional member may also identify a "primary contact" person who is eligible to vote, hold office, and serve on appointed groups.

Annual dues for institutional members are:
- $595 for sustaining institutional members
- $340 for regular institutional members
Types of Institutional Membership
SUSTAINING INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS receive:
- Full access to American Archivist Online, authenticated via your institution’s IP range*;
- Two print copies of Archival Outlook, delivered via first-class mail to recipients in the United States, Canada, and Mexico; delivered via air mail to all other countries;
- One complimentary copy of every book published by SAA during the membership period;
- Discounts for non-member employees on SAA books, and courses/webcasts and Annual Meeting registrations;
- Institutional member discounts on job vacancy announcements posted in SAA's Online Career Center;
- The option to designate a "primary contact" for the institution. (See below.)
REGULAR INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS receive:
- Full access to American Archivist Online, authenticated via your institution’s IP range*;
- One print copy of Archival Outlook;
- Discounts for non-member employees on SAA books, and courses/webcasts and Annual Meeting registrations;
- Institutional member discounts on job vacancy announcements posted in SAA's Online Career Center;
- The option to designate a "primary contact" for the institution. (See below.)
* Authentication via your institution’s IP range(s) means that any user connecting to American Archivist Online from your institution’s computer network will have access to the journal.
The Role of the Institution's "Primary Contact"
Member institutions may designate one primary contact who is or has been engaged in the custody or control of archives, records, or private papers at the institution, or who wishes to support the objectives of the Society. This individual receives the following benefits on behalf of the institution:
- Eligible to hold office in the Society; serve on appointed groups; and vote for officers, members of Council, and members of the Nominating Committee, and on all matters requiring a vote that come before the Society as a whole;
- Receives individual password access to the online membership directory;
- Receives full member discounts on SAA publications;
- Receives full member discounts on registration for the Annual Meeting and continuing education courses and webcasts;
- May join an unlimited number of SAA Sections as an official Section member.
